The market for drone is large and increasing. Drones can be used in many applications, ranging from aerial photography and building inspection over smart farming to transport of packages. The vast number of unmanned aircraft entering the Airspace presents a series of challenges. The existing Air Traffic Management systems are not suited to manage this new traffic because of the very large numbers of drones involved and the inability of radar systems to detect them. The lack of aviation training of drone pilots adds another challenge. In addition to that, stakeholders that had no dealings with (manned) aviation are now getting confronted with having to enforce aviation regulation. A new Traffic Management is needed to deal with the complexity and uniqueness of unmanned traffic. Unifly has been established to design and implement a new concept: Unmanned Traffic Management System. This platform enables the safe integration of Drone Traffic into the commercial aviation system.
